About ABC

Helping you reach your bluer skies
We are here to help you live a happy, healthy life!

No matter how dark and gray life is right now, you can find the blue sky ahead. I know you CAN evolve into the person you want to be. You owe it to yourself to strive toward your potential and find happiness in the process. Tap into your power and awaken to your own possibilities. Experience the Blue Sky!

As a very young child, we begin to dream of what we want to be when we grow up. We are taught to dream big and believe that anything is possible. Unfortunately, as we move along the journey of life, we often begin to give up on our dreams and believe that it's not attainable for us. At some point, we have to realize that we do have the choice to work on creating the life we want. We begin to recognize there is power in each of us and if we actively seek what it means for us to be happy, healthy, and fulfilled, we can reach our goals. We begin to see the significance of action which separates the dreamers from the doers. Doers take action and we help people take action!

Not everyone that comes to ABC will be familiar with their innate power. That’s ok, as we can help you in the process to get in touch with what is powerful inside of you. That's why there is a special emphasis on building a strong, healthy, and empowered mind. Our mind is the number one determining factor for how we experience our lives so it makes sense to give focus here. Some of the ways ABC helps you get there will be based on professional psychotherapy principles, as well as coaching techniques and motivational material. Check out the Counseling Services page for additional information.

Overall, the main goal of ABC is to show people a positive way to experience their life. It is to inspire hope that no matter where we begin we can become the person we are meant to be and create the life we want. It encourages connection to others who inspire and motivate you. It is to help you achieve your goals and embrace life. ABC strives to help you create a happier, healthier YOU!

About Tonya Kinnaman

I am a National Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor in Arizona. I did my undergraduate studies at Grand Canyon University and received my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Northern Arizona University in 2007. After completing my counseling internship at Empact-Suicide Prevention Center, I stayed on as a Family Therapist working primarily with children and families. I also worked for Aurora Behavioral Health as a crisis counselor in the Scottsdale Healthcare Emergency Departments of Osborn Hospital, Shea Hospital and Thompson Peak Hospital. From May 2010 to January 2014, I was an independent contractor with Breathe Again Counseling, LLC until I decided to open my own private practice, Arizona Blue Sky Counseling, LLC.

I look forward to working with clients to achieve their goals in the most productive manner possible. I believe that my clients possess the drive and tenacity within themselves to change perspectives and add skills to overcome personal issues which are barriers to success and happiness in their lives. Through an honest and caring relationship, we can work together to focus on solutions and bring about change in a way that you are comfortable with and can embrace.

Meet The Office Pups

Meet our sweet office dogs Carly (left) and Gizmo (right). They are very important to all of us here at Arizona Blue Sky Counseling. We all know the presence and companionship of dogs can lift spirits and bring a smile to our faces and Gizmo and Carly do that for anyone who meets them!

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect on my first visit?

During the first visit, I will be gathering historical and biographical information and we will review the intake paperwork and discuss why you are seeking treatment.  We will discuss how counseling services will be beneficial to you and we will work on developing a plan for treatment.

How long do sessions last?

A standard counseling session is 50 minutes.  Longer sessions can be arranged and couples often prefer meeting for 75-90 minutes.

How often do I need to come in for sessions?

At the beginning, weekly visits are recommended. We can develop a plan that will support your goals and fit your budget and schedule.  Counseling is most effective when sessions are consistent.

How long will it take to see results?

This depends on what we are working on, how consistently you or your child/family attend sessions and how committed you are to working on changes outside of the counseling office.  Many clients begin to experience relief within the first few sessions. Sometimes, clients find issues resolved within a number of weeks, others stay in treatment for several months or more.

What kind of things do people want help with?

Issues that I can address include anxiety, child behavior problems, communication issues, divorce, low self-esteem, parenting, personal growth, relationship problems, and recovering from abuse, trauma, and stress.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an approved provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, HMC Healthworks, and Magellan Biodyne.  If you have a different insurance provider, they may offer out-of-network coverage which means that you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for services.  If you would like to use your out-of-network benefits, I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What types of payment do you accept?

Cash, checks and debit/credit cards are accepted.
